Responding To More Listener Questions From “Brian Lehrer Show” Website

April 30th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I had promised to respond to some of the questions sent in by listeners on the “Brian Lehrer Show” website which we didn’t get to during the shows.
As a nation, we rarely talk about citizen preparedness publicly. Based on the phone and online reaction to the shows, it is clear that there is a lot [...]

‘Are You Ready’ Series Helps Recruit A New CERT Team Member

April 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I don’t know how interesting and helpful my ‘Are You Ready’ series was for most of Brian Lehrer’s listeners on WNYC. However, I was thrilled to hear that it may have at least had a small, albeit important, constructive impact on New York City’s emergency efforts.
Roger, a listener from Brooklyn, New York, emailed me through this site after the second episode to [...]

Responding To WNYC “Brian Lehrer Show” Listener Questions

April 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Thank you for all the emergency preparedness questions called or emailed in during the fourth installment of the Brian Lehrer Show’s ‘Are You Ready’ series. Though I’m not sure I’m knowledgeable enough to be dubbed a preparedness guru, I hope the series was somewhat informative on an issue — public emergency preparedness – that doesn’t always get a [...]

Adding “Homeland Security Watch” To The ICE,RB Blog Roll

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments

As I continue to build this site, I will be adding to my blog roll some blogs which I read regularly and believe other citizens interested in public preparedness will find helpful. Today, I am linking to Homeland Security Watch which is a blog I have visited pretty much every day for the past couple years. It is a ’must link’ for anyone interested in homeland security policy. Homeland Security [...]

Tomorrow, for the last segment of the “Are You Ready?” series I have been doing in April on the “Brian Lehrer Show”, we are soliciting questions on emergency preparedness that I will try to answer on the show. There is a page now on the show’s website for listeners to send in their queries on any aspect of preparedness. I will try to [...]

New News — New York City Alters Policy To Allow Pets In Emergency Shelters

April 17th, 2008 · 1 Comment

As I mentioned on the The Brian Lehrer Show earlier today, the City has altered its policy to permit pets in emergency shelters during a disaster.
The change had been made previously but it had not been publicly announced, according to a New York City Office of Emergency Management spokesperson.
I checked with OEM after receiving a call on air during last week’s show. [...]
