Last night, I had the terrific opportunity to talk about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program on WHCR-FM’s “Harlem 411″ show, hosted by Haja Worley. Haja, who himself is a member of the CERT from his West Harlem neighborhood, is doing a series of segments on public preparedness. We discussed our experiences as a CERT members, encouraged listeners to consider volunteering for the program, and explained some basic things New Yorkers should know and do when it comes to preparing themselves and their families.Â
It can be a great challenge to get the media to cover citizen readiness BEFORE a disaster. So, I give WHCR and Haja a lot credit for dedicating so much time to the issue on air.Â
It was also a chance to bring my two daughters (below) to the WHCR studios which are located on the campus of the City College of New York.
