A Citizen’s Eye View of Public Preparedness

Online Resources To Keep Informed About Hurricane Gustav

August 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Like most Americans, I have been closely following Hurricane Gustav on television, radion and web media news outlets. In addition, I wanted to bring your attention a number of online resources that I have been monitoring as well:

The American Red Cross offers two web-based information sources that I find very helpful:

Red Cross’ Online Newsroom which can be found at hurricanegustav.wordpress.com.

Red Cross’ Twitter Feed which can be found at twitter.com/RedCross

Some of the informative government sites in the impacted areas:

Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness – www.ohsep.louisiana.gov/

City of New Orleans Emergency Management – www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx

Mississippi Office of Emergency Management – www.msema.org/

National Hurricane Center – www.nhc.noaa.gov/

You can also get email alerts from FEMA on their activities at www.fema.gov/help/getemail.shtm.

There are a number of resources that have been set up on the web organically by folks in the Gulf area:

Gustav Wiki – gustavwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

Gustav Information Center — gustav08.ning.com/

I will adding additional online resources as I see them.
