A Citizen’s Eye View of Public Preparedness

Mayor Bloomberg Plays “Test The Guests” On Emergency Preparedness At NYC CERT’s 5th Anniversary Party

June 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Last night, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg hosted a barbecue marking the 5th Anniversary of the Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program in New York City at Gracie Mansion on the East River. CERT members came from all over the City to enjoy the beautiful weather and view as well as to celebrate the growth and impact of CERT since its establishment here.

Bloomberg thanked us ”for everything you do to keep NYC safe and secure.” At the end of the remarks, the Mayor announced that we were going to play ”Test The Guests” on emergency preparedness knowledge and invited three CERT volunteers to join him and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner Joseph Bruno on the stage to compete.

Below is a video I took of ”Test The Guests” game. Warning: I just got a Flip camera from my family for my birthday, and this is my first video using it. The video is a bit shaky, and I shot the proceedings from a distance. But I think it gives a sense of the “Test The Guests” game. The video also offers a good refresher quiz on your own emergency preparedness knowledge, as well as showcasing the Mayor’s talents as a game show host – which might be a career he should consider when his second and final mayoral term ends.
