The British Home Office has just released a new report with its anti-terror strategy which reports that the risk of a WMD attack on the United Kingdom is increasing. HLS Watch has a good summary of how the new report fits into the British government’s overall approach to terrorism.Â
The U.K. has been relatively open with its citizens about how the government views the probability and scope of major disasters. Last year, the British released a “National Risk Register” which outlined for the public which threats the government thought were most serious (and is in line with recommendation of the U.S. ‘WMD Commission’ which called for more public education). The British approach may provide a helpful model for the Obama Administration as it decides how best to inform the public on the risks facing the U.S.
