A Citizen’s Eye View of Public Preparedness

FEMA Administrator-Designate Fugate ‘Tweets’ His Way To Washington For Confirmation Preparations

March 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I wrote recently that I thought the Twitter feed, Disasterus, of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate provided some interesting and even fun insight into the activities of the future FEMA Administrator. In a tweet earlier today, Fugate wrote:

Tallahassee this morning, flying out to DC to begin briefings to prepare for Senate Confirmation

In the era of Twitter, there is an opportunity for our leaders to directly offer the public information — in bursts of 140 characters or less, of course — about what they do on a daily basis (and receive feedback directly as well). As Fugate is a devotee of the micro-blogging service, I would expect that his feed will continue to be a good window on his work at FEMA (even during this time before he takes over) — and I encourage you to check it out.

Just as I was about to post this I checked to see if there was any new ‘tweets’ on Fugate’s feed. Turns out he may have a little emergency response and recovery to do with his baggage:

Made it to Atlanta, missed original flight, maybe DC tonight, wonder if bags make it?
