A Citizen’s Eye View of Public Preparedness

As “Fay” Reaches Florida Mainland, Red Cross Offers Range Of Helpful Web-Based Resources

August 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

With Tropical Storm Fay hitting Florida, I wanted to highlight several Red Cross web-based resources that I found on their Twitter feed(which itself is a terrific information source).

*One is the Red Cross’ Safe & Well program which provides a way for those who need to evacuate in a crisis to register themselves as “safe and well” so family members know of their situation. You can also register by calling 1-800-Red-Cross.

*The second is a little more targeted but I thought is quite interesting and effective — an audio announcement from the Tampa Red Cross in advance of the storm with instructions on what evacuees should bring to an emergency shelter using Utterz

*And finally, you can keep up to date on the unfolding Fay preparation and response efforts at the Red Cross’s online newsroom.

Thanks for mentioning our efforts. Let us know if we can provide you with any more TS Fay updates. We had a great following of our Twitter stream via SMS this disaster.
