A Citizen’s Eye View of Public Preparedness

Government Preparedness Websites

April 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have added a number of government preparedness websites to my Resources section.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

www.ready.gov

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

www.hhs.gov/disasters/

U.S. Centers for Disease Control

www.bt.cdc.gov/

New York City Office of Emergency Management

www.nyc.gov/html/oem/html/ready/ready.shtml

I think that there is a lot of good information on these official sites, and they are worth looking at for citizens interested in preparing for emergencies. However, the sites have not broken through to the public yet in any significant way. I will be writing about this topic often as this blog develops.

Good morning. Read your fine piece in the Post. You have prompted me to participate in my first blog!

Thank you for an articulate, detailed and thought-provoking article. I am the new public outreach coordinator for the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and would like to bring your attention to another good Web site: readyvirginia.gov

Please take a look and consider adding it to your list. Of course, we are a work in progress. Reaching targeted audiences with useful information that prompts them to take action is an enormous task. I welcome all help and will point folks to your article and to your blog. Thanks much!
