The current literature on citizen preparedness consistently lists contacting friends and family as the first actions citizens will take during a disaster. Also, protecting family is cited as a primary motivator of citizens for preparing. Encouraging citizens to prepare a family emergency preparedness plan, modeled by the president is a great way to promote an easy and free preparedness step.
