Several of us residents of Seattle Housing Authority buildings have formed a group, SHARP, SHA Residents Preparing. We got training fron the Red Cross, The Seattle Office of Emergency Management, SFD, and Seattle Housing Authority on Disaster Prep. and on making presentations at SHA buildings, both Low Income and Senior . We are also working on developing internal and external response teams.
I'm grateful that the Mayor and SHA have told us that we may not get any help for 3 or more days. That has encouraged us to take action.

This is a refreshing stance from Obama and FEMA in encouraging the general public to be self relieant and proactive in their preparedness. There are many Americans who are doing this on their own, but hopefully those who are not were listening. As someone who is passionate about preparedness, I have many friends and neighbors who assume that when the SHTF, they can come over and help themselves. That is NOT a preparedness plan. There's a reason it's called self reliance, folks! http://tinyurl.com/onan6z
