I do like the idea of a citizen preparedness task force, but I'm extremely wary of the task force being any part of a government organization.

Take this for example: http://www.gsnmagazine.com/cms/industry-sectors/disaster-preparedness/1291.html
The same organization (DHS) who did such a wonderful job with the Katrina aftermath is now going to stick their heads into certifying the private sector with ASCI certifications!?

Sure, it'll be voluntary...AT FIRST!

Just like all the other federal programs, it will grow to the point of sapping American tax dollars, and providing services that can more easily (and with better quality) be provided by the private sector—through efforts such as this blog.

What I'd prefer to see is more of a liaison-type entity that would promote public safety and preparedness. And an end to the notion that more government programs will improve the position our country is in.

Welcome back John, you're in our prayers.

[...] John Solomon is back. He is the author of incaseofemergencyblog.com and I’ve known John through the DHS roundtables. John’s blogging is valuable for its insight about the first responder policy issues and community of interest. This week, he came back on line after disengaging to undergo treatment for a health condition. Check out his new post here. [...]

The concept of "CITIZEN PREPAREDNESS TASK FORCE" is something that several of us have been proposing for a long time.

That is probably why you see many of the comments on our blogs, to share our "citizen" views.

If nothing else, but to be able to present observations from a citizen point of view, I agree the citizen advisory committee is long overdue.

Hope to see us and other readers of our blogs on the committee in 2009.

Happy New Year and Get Well!
